That's a big negatory on the North Carolina relo. I've been there. NC isn't my scene. :) When I saw this "list" on the news last night, I was like "who determines this?!" Affordable housing? Who needs that!
Personally, it would be great to check out Seattle. No joke. Seriously.
I almost lived in Portland after law school, and I was excited about that because it would have been close to Seattle.
Books, culture, coffee, art, hiking, biking, nightlife, funky music clubs, mountains, water, DOGGIES, and that giant penis looking structure smack dead in the middle of the city. Lovely!
Ahem. Yes, Seattle is awesome. Funny that they left out the theatre, opera, symphony, ballet, wineries, EMP, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, etc., but oh, well. They also left out Mario Batali's dad (lives and has a deli here), Dale Chihuly, Ed Viesturs, Bill Gates (and the foundation), etc... KBL, what sculpture are you referring to? I should think I would have noticed it, but maybe I didn't. There is a new sculpture park (I have only driven past it so far), so maybe it's in there. Do you mean the Space Needle?
Ahem. I can't believe you mentioned Vacaville; my great-grandmother came from there. She was a Blum, from the fruit-and-nut-packing family...I am NOT making that up, but I added it so you could have good time making fun of me. I need to add the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) to the list, but it's not world-class, so far.
I didn't think anyone outside of Seattle even noticed our sports teams; not too much delivery there. Except, in my era, the Huskies used to ROCK at football.
Yeah, how did you like the basketball team's shenanigans? In our house, we say, Let 'em go. Don't want to be held hostage by the owners' demands. The poor taxpayers just ponied up for 2 new stadiums (baseball and football). I'd be p*ssed if I paid taxes in the city, especially if they added a third arena. But that's just my opinion, and what do I know? I'm descended from a family of fruit and nut packers!
What a weird little list this is! Some of the cities are a definite "YES" for me.... Charleston, SC; Charlottesville, VA; Savannah, GA; Naples, FL; San Diego, CA; Seattle, WA..... but then you get to.... Sioux Falls, SD ?!?? (I've been there before and let me tell ya... there AIN'T MUCH GOIN' ON....), and Stamford, CT??? Been there too. Very UN-memorable place.
Lists like these are fun to look at though. It would be cool to have the freedom to try a new city every year or so... that is, if one didn't have a mortgage, kids, job, responsibilities, and all the other TRAPPINGS (humorous pun intended) of Modern Life. :-)
I can't believe I wasted the 10 seconds it took to see if Chitown made the list. Can I get a "DUH!!"? Most amazing, wonderful, beautiful, spectacular city in the world!!

Ahem. Yes, Karen, that would be the PENIS looking thing I referred to.
But, I was also referring to the sculpture park, I think, because my friends told me about it.
I love Chihuly glass. I've always wanted the rose named after him. Maybe I'll plant it next year.
I forgot all about Bill Gates! Oh, and the Seahawks and Ichiro & his Mariners. I won't even mention the NBA team that looks like it's on its way out.
Hey, we should just start our own travel site dedicated to Seattle. Ha ha ha ha!!!!
Ahem.
I love my blogging friends.
;)
Ahem. I like the name Vacaville. That just sounds like a fun place to live.
