Plastic bag surcharge

YES! YES!! YES!!! It's about time.

Even though I've used these bags for poop pick up, I feel .25 cents is a small price to pay for cleaning up the environment and protecting our wildlife.

California spends $25million a YEAR on plastic bag clean up. What I want to know is, how the heck did they figure that out???

Either way, I'll support this charge.

This year, Jewel started carrying these canvas bags. They only cost$1, and I have about 8 or 10 now. (That's mostly cuz I never remember to bring the damn things in with me when I get to the store, despite keeping them in the backseat, so I keep buying more every damn time!) I LOVE them for when I go to Sam's Club. They hold a TON of groceries. I can fit about 4 of those crappy plastic bag's worth of groceries in one of these canvas bags. They rock!

YAY! Glad to see it's not just here. Whole foods has been doing this since last summer and FINALLY the other big guys have caught on. I LOVE the canvas bags because you can fit so much more stuff into them and also because they hold up great - half your stuff doesn't end up rolling around the trunk like it does in plastic. I've been using my Whole Food's canvas bag in Albertsons and just recently Albertsons starting selling their own. So I bought several because people in the store by my house would ask, "Oh where's the Whole Foods around here?" (the closest one is about a 25 minute drive)
So I'd have to explain that to multiple people almost every time I shopped which got annoying. I felt like wearing a sign that said, "This is just my shopping bag people! There's not a new Whole Foods in the area!" Although there needs to be.

ohhh i made a receptacle to recycle shopping bags at the office and i drew seaturtles and penguins all over it so that people will recycle. i bring them back to the grocery store to where they recycle them! and when i sent out the email i had that picture of the turtle! i use canvas bags and encourage the office to do the same!

you probably care nothing about this but i love seaturtles and floating plastic bags look like delicious jelly fish to sea creatures!!!

You know, as soon as I left that comment, I realized that you guys have Albertson's out there, and they're the same company, so I figured you probably had them, too.

Lizziebelle (love your name)
I absolutely care about the sea turtles, penguins, and all other wildlife that are affected by humanity's disregard and neglect. I LOVE what you did for your office and think that should be implemented everywhere across the globe. And what a creative way to do it! At the very least it gets people to think.

Laura, out of curiosity, now what do you use to pick up Wrigley's pooh? I use the bags as well to scoop out the litter box.

We have a pooper scooper for the yard waste that we put into a compost bin. We still have to use the plastic doggy bags for walks though. I read somewhere that you could use tupperware for the poops on walks and then dispose of the poops once at home but I have a hard time managing the leash as it is so trying to tote around a tub of poo would ultimately result in disaster.

I should probably just use paper bags for walks but then it's like I'm killing trees to pick up dog poop so what to do??? Maybe I'll just stick a cork up Wrigs butt and call it a day.
