EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA.
What the hell do they put in this stuff? I did a little online research and found this message board and it appears I'm not the only one with this issue.
Here are some of the reviews:
"I tried the sugar-free iced vanilla coffee this morning. 1 hour later I had cramping and diahrrea so bad. Do they put sorbitol in the sugar free? It felt like I had eaten too much sugar free candy. I do love the taste of the coffee, but not sure I want to side effects."

"I read these reviews and was instantly horrified by the tales of people getting shaken up inside, but I chose to try the iced coffee anyways. I opted for the vanilla flavored large sized. Words can hardly describe the taste of this drink. I can say the it was like a Greek goddess of taste buds released her power and flavor fairies were dancing on my tongue. I was unable to make the drink last more than a few minutes. The joy was short lived. I was driving home and the all mighty laxative power unleashed its fury on my innocent and unsuspecting stomach. I broke out in a cold sweat and contemplated running every red light due to the sheer pain I was in. Five minutes later I was home and penguin walking into the house. What ensued could is best described as a wooly mammoth getting kick in the junk. I was down for the count. I fear that I may have suffered internal and possibly external injuries. Once it is safe to leave the house I will probably go buy another one because they are that flipping GOOD. I will just wait until I get home to drink it."

"I got sick the first two times, but I think I got used to it and I don't notice it any more. The stuff is pretty much an intense laxative though... so make sure there is a restroom nearby. Seriously. Its difficult to explain the effect this will have on your body. Tastes amazing. Nice and cheap. McDonalds is the best restaurant ever. I limit myself to 1 per week though because its just so bad for you. But it sure tastes good."

"My friend Tammy and I are standing here and we have a new name for the McDonalds Iced Coffee. It's now called the "McColonic" it's cheaper then a colon cleanser!!! We love them but we can't stop with egg farts!!! LOL!!!:)"

"Loved the carmel flavor! Wish they had soy milk as an option. My stomach was hurting after and I was bloated because of the milk. It was not strong enough for me!"

"I drank it the first time and loved it...1 hour later I was doubled over with severe stomach/abdominal cramps to the point where I thought maybe they did not rinse the pot after cleaning it and considered going to the hospital. It lasted for about 2 hours. Three months later, I decided to give it another shot since I did love the "coffee" and had the exact same reaction. I had no idea so many other people were experiencing similar effects. I read somewhere about all the additives that are in their coffee. It sounds similar to Olean...unfortunate because their coffee truely does taste great."

"Yes I felt pukey from it too; it was delicious and I was disappointed that I could not get one again the next day as I felt nauseous; took the third time trying it to realize it was the iced coffee making me sick. And I think it is the CARRAGEENAN ingredient - have read a lot of people get sick, upset stomach from it although it is also in creamers and ice cream."

Aside from these lovely side effects it also gives you an INTENSE buzz. After a few sips you'll feel like the spaz in the commercial.

I use the iced coffee to wash down my chocolate-flavored laxatives.
Puts me in the bathroom for hours.
I usually pack a lunch and make a day out of it.
OMG. My tiny friend. Your colonic histrionics are great sources of laughter for me. :-)
I've read somewhere that Afghan women never poop. Something or other about them not having the same digestive track and organs...Hmmm, I wonder if McDonald's iced coffee could disprove this theory???
Absolutely not. It would just make them pee more than they already do. :-)
Oh my, I'm glad I don't like coffee! But talking about pooh cracks me up. The 2nd review was the best "I broke out in a cold sweat and contemplated running every red light due to the sheer pain I was in. Five minutes later I was home and penguin walking into the house." Penguin walking = my favorite.
a123OK so I had to research this drink b/c after discovering it a few months ago, I have come to the conclusion that it must have the strongest caffeince content than any other energy drink in the freaking world! I sware McDonald's has to be putting crack in the iced coffee. Why do you think everyone is shitting themselves too. I can handle a TON of caffeine, but one of the mediums keeps me going for 12 hours. I think its a time-released drug in there.
So it was the ice coffee that did it to me!! I decided to try this while driving from Texas to Minnesota. I was hooked on the first one. I bought one when we left Waco, TX. and then another. When we got to Oklahoma City, I made a wrong turn into downtown area. I was desperate. Not a gas
station in site. I spotted a hospital and headed for the Emergency entrance. I pulled up in front and told my husband to get into the drivers seat and park it. I grabbed a jacket (in case I didn't make it). When I got to the restroom, both stalls were occupied, but I made it. I will still drink them, but not while traveling a long distance in unfamiliar area.
i might consider it for a quick weight loss before a big night out
Great post!
I think their iced coffee tastes so awesome!
I was really surprised at first. But it is so neat how they create a high quality product.
My blog post about it
OK, so my husband and I threw away not one, not two, but THREE medium McDonald's vanilla iced coffees today...from two different locations. The reason: they all tasted like CRAP! Did Mickey D's change their recipe in the last week??!! What the hell???!!! We went on a day trip, stopped at our local McD's, ordered up, paid, went on our way. Tasted and went into caffeine shock. Tossed them at the BP down the road. Stopped at the next McD's, line out to the street. Back onto the highway. Stopped at the next McD's, ordered the same beverage (with extra vanilla, as were the first two...and BTW, why do some McD's charge extra for extra flavoring, and others don't?), and, lo and behold, it tasted exactly like the first two and equally as horrible. Tossed this one, too. AGHHH!! I had two this past week and both were WONDERFUL! My next email is going to McDonald's customer service department, if one exists. I NEED MY ICED COFFEE, DUDES!!!!!
I've never gotten sick from drinking one, however I didn't choose sugar free since I'm allergic to almost all artificial sweetners.
There does not seem to be a standard in place for how to make the drink though. Sometimes it is real good, other times not so much. One new kid even just gave me regular coffee in the clear plastic cup after walking around confused for a few minutes.
I have the same "feeling" after drinking a Mc D's iced coffee. I get that BUZZ and then about an hour later.............BAM....I SWEAR I LOST 10 POUNDS. I get one once a week to stay "regular".
you're description was so funny.. i tried it since last week ICE-COFFEE VANILLA LARGE SIZE. it's really really good!!
Completely addicted to these. I only get the regular flavor and I have never had a problem with er...the bathroom. I try to only get one after 2pm so I get it for the dollar price! What a deal, way cheaper than anything at Starbucks and they are great.
thank you for posting these Iced Coffee reviews, this has got to be the funniest thing i have read so far this year
I first tasted the sugar free vanilla iced coffee and it was really good. Then, as someone else mentioned, about an hour later, I was so sick. That's the sickest I've ever been with stomach problems.
But, I liked the coffee so much that I went and bought another maybe a day later. The thing is that coffee always makes me sick. So, that's why I was willing to go buy it again.
I haven't been sick from it again, though.
I don't understand what's happening to all of you with the "bathroom" issues and McD iced coffee. I've never had a problem like you describe when I've had it. My only problem was the same issue of lack of standards in making it. Sometimes it's too sweet, sometime it's too dark. I'm checking online right now on ways to make it myself at home. Any ideas?
Yeah you can make your own "iced coffee" pretty easy.
Basically since its just iced coffee...go to the store and get some good 100% columbian coffee...you can grind it yourself at walmart and other grocery stores. There are several brands availible starbucks etc...they all seem to havedecent columbian...(minus folgers)...there 100% columbian tastes weak and too bitter.
Then brew your coffee with cold filtered water...imediatly after its done brewing put it in the refrigerator! Otherwise if its left on the burner it will ruin the taste quickly.
*Note while the coffee is still hot stir in your sugar...I use sugar in the raw or some good quality brown sugar...it still has the molasses and has a richer flavor.
After the coffee cools poor some and whole milk (red cap) 50/50 over a tall glass full of ice.
You have just made your first "iced coffee"!
Those surps such as vannila etc are avalible at the grocery store if you like all that flavoring.
Yeah, I am totally addicted to McD's iced coffee. 4 or 5 a week go down my gullet. But...I don't get it flavored, and then when I checked the nutrition info, I saw that the regular flavor iced coffee had 270 calories in it! Yikes - the answer: NO SUGAR. Just coffee, milk, and ice. I know, I know - without the sugar, it tastes like, well, coffee! But it drops it to 90 calories in a large cup, it's half the cost of the $4.50 latte at Starbucks, and as a bonus: NO DIARRHEA!
I just had an iced mocha (standard) last Wednesday. First, couldn't sleep well that night from so much caffine. Next day had intense diarrhea, and have had every day for 5 days now. Seems finally getting better today. Good to hear it's not just me. I don't care how good it tasted, it's NOT worth going through this again!
I GOT VERY VERY SICK!
I have been driking McDonald's coffee for over a month now, and I've been sick for a month. I just had NO IDEA that it was the McDonald's coffee that was making me sick, until today.
Ever since I drank the coffee, I had the following symptoms: Diarrhea, Nausea, Skin & Eye Irritation.
I was so sick sometimes that I had to miss work. That's how bad it was.
Never, ever drink their coffee.
"I was unable to make the drink last more than a few minutes."
I'm sorry, but if you drank a large coffee in just a few minutes then I can understand why your stomach blew up. It was too much too fast, imho.
I always order a regular and drink it as though it's a drink. It never disturbs me.
I have been drinking McDonalds Vanilla Iced Coffee for some time. I had stomach issues but not enough to connect the two together. Then all of a sudden I developed severe dry mouth. I was not doing anything different or taking any new medications. Then I decided to start paying more attention as to when and why this condition occured- the other day I had an vanilla iced coffee and not 30 mins later I developed severe dry mouth again. Yep- you guessed it - it is the coffee! I am done with their coffee- too many bad side effects!!!
Wow! I imbibe in it daily with no problems.

Phew, OK I feel a little better that I am not the only one having some issues with their iced coffees!
I remember reading a McDonalds bag once claiming that their iced coffees were "a great way to escape that afternoon lull."
MY ADVICE: stick with the lull!
For goodness sakes, they should put "insta-poop" on those cups!
