OLD SCHOOL CARNATION BREAKFAST BARS

Remember these??? They were the pioneer of power/energy bars. I used to LOVE these when I was growing up and for years I've tried to find something similar to taste and texture and nothing has even come close.

Actually there was a close second to these, they were called Delve Bars but they are no longer in existence. Sigh...

So I saw Target's brand of Chocolate Peanut Butter bars the other day and I thought I'd give them a whirl. I must say, it comes pretty close to the Carnation bar.

Texture was pretty similar to the Carnation bar, though not as crumbly. And there's that one zap of flavor that I can't quite put my finger on that's still missing. Do you know what I'm talking about?? It's almost got a peanut butter cookie dough type taste to it. I wonder if the Carnation people believe in RE-INCARNATION and would consider bringing these back to the shelves. I'll draw up a petition right now if so. Seriously, my dream job would be breakfast bar taste tester. Is there such a position out there that needs to be filled????

Ok, another bar just popped into my head. Remember Granola Clusters? I can't find anything on google about them, but they were sort of a cylinder looking bar that was rolled in granola/oats on the outside and had a chewy nougat center. They kind of looked similar to the Pay Day candy bar. (What the hell kind of name is Pay Day? It bugs me just about as much as those stupid $100,000 dollar Grand bars.) I think Granola Clusters had a few different flavors too. I remember always having the Green Box but I'm not sure I remember the exact kind. Don't you wish you could go back in time and re-live (if only in your mind) the experiences you had as a kid? And be able to see your childhood home, walk through the front door, enter the kitchen, open the cabinets and see as plain as day what was inside your pantry so you could remember the flippin' name of the Granola Bars you used to love???

Actually there is a way to sort of bring back memories from your past through a treatment called, EMDR. I've done this for over a year and a half (with a therapist who specializes in this treatment) and it can be pretty profound at times. Hard part is you need a focused and quiet mind for it to truly be effective. And you have to be prepared for whatever is stored in those teeny tiny pockets of your brain that you typically don't have access to in your normal everyday life. How the hell did we get on this topic? By the way Trader Joe's Granola Hemp cereal is fabulous. I should try and make a bowl of that into a bar. YUM! K, I've gotta go get more food for the animals. Their little cupboards are bare!!

Omg, I used to love those bars! You totally triggered a memory I probably would've forgotten.

I remember Carnation bars too! Weird. I'd completely forgotten about them. Maybe they still make them, but only sell them in foreign markets. It seems like that happens sometimes.

I love every single Trader Joe's cereal I've had. I got this "Just the Clusters" maple granola last week. It's amazing. I mix it in my yogurt. Trader Joe's is very special. I love Whole Foods over in the District, but sometimes I don't have the patience to deal with the other seven million people also trying to shop there.

I don't know why, but something in the Atkins Chocolate Peanut Butter bar reminds me of the Carnation Bar and it prompted me to look up "old school breakfast bar". Guess I'm not alone! Anyway, I think it's the chocolate coating - has the same smell??? Man, I miss those Carnation bars.

CARNATION BREAKFAST BAR ADDICT!!!

http://www.petitiononline.com/cb01/petition.html

I specifically go into the cereal aisle to look for the bars, and end up staring at the carnation instant breakfast drink box to get a memory of what the bars taste like and it works! Petition total currently at 2684 since I've been there! I HOPE someone's actually doing something with that. If not, is there somewhere we can write to and let them know about that link? It would SOOO be worth it!

What can we do to get the Peanut Bars back? I looked for them for a few years after they discontinued them, found nothing ever.

I woke up this morning craving one. And that is why I am on this site. Love the pics and if anyone wants to do something about getting those peabut butter bars back...count me in.

They were just the best - hate they are no longer made. I too have searched for something close to the same... just no comparison.

This is half entertaining. But then again I'm very high right now

I barely remember the taste (I now sadly conflate it with the oversugary "kudos" style faux-granola bars studded with too many chocolate chips), but instant breakfast was a lot of malted milk, perhaps the bars were missing that?
