Wrigley's Identity Crisis

Why is it the majority of the time when I introduce passer-bys to Wrigley they say, "Oh, is he named after Wrigley's gum?"

This is now becoming my standard response...

"No, he's not named after a stick of gum. He is named after Wrigley Field."

(blank stare)

"Home of the Cubs."

(furrowed brow)

"A baseball team."

(more confused looks)

"In Chicago."

(almost there...)

"Chicago, Illinois."

Seriously people...DOES ANYBODY OUT HERE WATCH BASEBALL??

(*sidenote* this gum was really good but it loses flavor in all of 17.4 seconds)

I'm amazed that people ask that! I've never even BEEN to Chicago (yes, I've heard it's a fun town), and I'm not even that big of a baseball fan, but yet I know where Wrigley Field is.

People are weird.

Honey and I wouldn't stare, he was a pro-ball player. Just duck if he is throwing something to you..he pitches.

But what will you say when they change the name of Wrigley field? I'm sure it will happen in your Wrigley's lifetime.

Its not just baseball, people generally dont have a clue what goes on outside their own lives...you'd be surprised how many people dont know where Wisconsin is (isnt that in the midwest somewhere) and A LOT of people dont know the state abbreviations...seriously people, thats 5th grade geography.

You're right about the gum though...Awesome for about 5 seconds.
