Chumley is Improving!!

***UPDATE***
YAY! Chumley's getting back to his old self again. He bit my hands and almost ripped my face off when I tried to squirt his antibiotics down his throat tonight. This is GREAT NEWS!! He's still sleeping a lot but that is good because he needs to heal his little body. I really hope the worst is behind him.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers for Chumley. We both appreciate it.

Chum sends Hugs and Hisses!

***UPDATE***
Please if you love animals, please say a prayer for my Chumley. He feels lousy and looks so miserable. He's very angry and when I try to comfort him he swats and hisses which is not out of the ordinary for Chum, but nor is this his usual feisty self. He is on antibiotics for what may or may not be a bladder infection. The vet is concerned that this could lead to kidney failure but in order to test his kidney function he would need to be sedated. And if it is kidney failure, chances are his kidneys will not recover after sedation so we are not wanting to go that route right now. My sister said that perhaps Chum developed a "sympathy bladder infection" after I got mine last week. Breaks my heart because he was such a sweetheart for several days in a row when I was sick. I want my old Chumley back - fangs and all!

He's been urinating all over the house (which is really nothing new) but his urine is dark brown (similar to mine last week) and this morning he pooped outside his litter box. Of course I have a visual - it looks like a burn victim's thumb...

His sweet streak from last week has definitely worn off and just a few minutes ago while he was eating his food, he started to gag and then dry heave for several seconds (thought it was just a hairball) but he hacked up lots of foamy vomit. Poor guy!

I called our vet but he had left for a long weekend. I didn't want to talk to another vet because this guy knows us and Chumley very well (just through one attempt at an exam) so the receptionist said she'll call him at home. She told him Chum's symptoms and he is prescribing medication to Chumley unseen. That is the only way this cat can be treated. He goes into RABID BEAST MODE the second we walk through the vet's door.

I'm on my way to pick his meds. I hope my little guy will be ok.

Poor guy-I can't believe how sweet he was being with you. Hope he gets better soon!

Your family has been through the ringer, dear. I'm so sorry.

Trying to think back to when I had Jasmine & Mortimer (my dear, departed kitties)... might just be a bladder or kidney infection.

I hope Tom is back in town now? You've had to weather an AWFUL lot on your own lately.

Just saw your update... I'll say a prayer for your little guy (and for SANITY for you, my dear... such stress on your plate, right now.)

Hang in there, girl.

please have faith and get a second opinion. My little brave boy JimmyCat was diagnosed with Renal Kindey Failure...almost three years ago! He has survived and thrived with this condition. I am not sure why your vet is recommending invasive procedure to determine this condition; a simple blood test and a look at his BUN and creatinine levels should tell you what you need to know.
JimmyCat gets sub-cutaneous fluids ever day..which we administer ourselves at home. Basically, it is injecting fluids under his skin for absortion so his kidneys function. A cat with kidney failure simply cant get as much fluid as he needs by drinking. Thus the subQs. I will pray for Chumley but know that this can be managed if it is Kidney Failure. peace.

Hi, you don't know me, I am a friend of KBL. Poor sweet Chumley. I have to say I agree with the Anonymous poster, there should be some blood tests done, or possibly an xray to see if he ate something and not that object is blocking something, that happened to one of my cats. My cat Abby freaks in a major way too, but it might be worth the trip to find out what's wrong right away. You and Chumley are both in my prayers.

I can totally hear your voice "reading" that post. Even though Chumley can raise hell, you know I have a sweet spot for him. Aww. I agree with your sister on the sympathy thing. I'm sending good vibes Chumley's direction. Get better soon, kitty!

How is Chumster feeling this morning?

I started reading your blog after visiting Karen's. I absolutely love visiting everyday :)

i hope Chumley feels better. It's always sad when our animal loves are under the weather, especially since they can't tell use what we can do to make them feel better. What brand of food do you feed him?Supposedly Purina,IAM and other brands contribute to urinary tract infections and other problems.
