old time photo

Tom found this pic on ebay of my Dad with his parents reviewing his Cub's contract that he signed while still in college. He was only 20 years old. When he started playing, he would pitch a game, then take a train back to school for exams the next day. As you can imagine, playing pro-ball while in college definitely had some perks. Let's just say he had a lot of fun.

Anyway, I love how my Grandpa's pants are so high on his waist. And it's hard to see but I LOVED the doorknobs in my grandparent's house. They were those heavy beveled glass knobs that were always cool to the touch. Anthropologie makes some cool knobs that are similar. I also love the look of the old tv, even though it's just the edge. Reminds me of "I Love Lucy" or "The Honeymooners".

I remember those knobs! We had them all through the house in my childhood home. I always thought they were so elegant looking.

Did you say this was your Dad or Grandad in the photo? I can see where you get your hairline from. I've got my grandmother's and a spinkling of cowlicks here and there for good measure. Weird name 'cowlicks'?

How surreal is it that you can find pictures of your dad on freakin' Ebay?! He was so handsome!

1.5: It's my Dad and you are right about the hairline. I never realized that before. I'm still using my man shampoo so we'll see what happens!

Chi: There's about 700 things right now on ebay (depending on how you spell his name). We only get a few things here and there, usually unique photos or novelty items. His face was in a bouncy ball that came inside a cereal box and that is one of my favorites cuz it's just so funny. I think I may have blogged about that. Have to make sure Wrigs doesn't get to it!

That is such a precious photo. The joy and quiet pride on their faces is so dear. They look like a wholesome, hardworking trio...and very attractive! I can't imagine a pro athlete still in college - he would be swarmed! No wonder your dad had so much fun in his college days! Thanks for posting this piece of family history. XO

Ooops, that should have read 'sprinkling' in reference to the cowlicks remark.

Chi is quite right -- It really is quite neat to find something this special on Ebay!

Oh my gosh! This is so cool! I didn't realize your connection with the Cubs! I grew up watching them! How neat to have a part of his life documented like that!
