Tom's hillside theory

So I mentioned that the hillside behind our house needs to be surveyed. Odds are we will need to invest in a huge ass retaining wall to keep it secure. I prefer to do this sooner than later because I don't want to spend my already sleepless nights worrying if we'll wake up in a house boat. Tom and I were discussing this and at one point his response was, "The hillside's fine. It hasn't ever slid in the past."

The absurdity of his statement left me speechless.

But not for long.

I then said, "I'm no Geo-tech, but I'm fairly certain the SAME hillside can't slide more than once."

to be continued...

Remind Tom that you live in Seattle and it rains all the time; thus, rain = mudslides
My hubby is an engineer, do you want me to send him out?
Hope you love your new house! It looks so pretty!

I think this is a non-negotiable issue. You need to have it surveyed immediately by a professional. Call your HO carrier and see if they have recommendations - they have a vested interest in making sure your house is not destroyed by a mudslide. (This is the "insurance nerd" in me speaking.)

We don't have mudslides here, but I've seen too many videos/sad stories. I would make this a priority.

Heheh... Tell Tom to submit that theory to Jay Leno. The man is always in need of a good joke.

But on a more serious note, I think Happy Wife is absolutely right.
